Katsuji Sakai
Representative Director / Designer
Born in Shimokitazawa, Tokyo, in 1970; raised in Bangkok from 1972. After graduating from a fashion college in Japan, he worked on overseas production for a Japanese apparel company.
He returned to Thailand in 1991, where his Thai gave him a role few could fill — standing between Japanese buyers and Thai factories and making each side understood by the other. In 1996 he set up his own 60-person garment factory in Bangkok, running OEM contracts and his own label side by side.
In 2026 he established Rub a Dub Co., Ltd. in Tokyo and restarted the brand as RUB A DUB TOKYO. He has spent around 40 years of his life in Bangkok.
Since 1996 we have run a 60-person garment factory in Bangkok. We know where a schedule slips, where quality drifts, and what a line can realistically absorb — from inside the factory, not from a spec sheet.
We do not simply translate a spec — we restate it in terms a Thai production floor can act on. Most overseas-production problems come from unstated assumptions rather than from language itself.
Three-dimensional patterns, awkward materials, small runs with many variations. If a standard production line has turned the job down, it is worth asking us.
We have run our own label since its launch, and the 1996–2008 archive still exists. We understand the selling side of a garment, not only the making of it.
Founded an independent 60-person garment factory in Bangkok and launched the JAH GUIDE label.
The label spread across Thailand and beyond — the period that produced the surviving archive.
Established Rub a Dub Co., Ltd. in Tokyo and started afresh as RUB A DUB TOKYO.
